Pre-Event Seminar

 Heart Musics in Missions
Tuesday July 11, 2006 - 9:00-5:00
Facilitators: Dr. Tom Avery, Paul Neeley, Dr. John Benham

Culturally appropriate music can be a key element in evangelism, church planting, discipleship, and worship, as well as ministries such as health and education. But if we are foreigners to a music system, how much can we do?

This seminar will equip you:
     1) to tap into the heart music of a people to reach them effectively with the message of God's Word in song;
     2) to coach local composers and musicians to develop a music ministry among their own people group.

The one-day seminar is designed for all of those in and preparing for cross-cultural ministry, regardless of musical training or ability.

You will gain understanding of the role and importance of heart music in local bodies of the worldwide church. You will also receive some theoretical and practical tools necessary to promote creation of indigenous Christian music in a variety of cultural or multi-cultural settings. You will see how a Biblical case for ethnomusicology includes music in worship, discipleship, and evangelism.

If you choose to take this course for graduate credit through Bethel University, there will be reading and writing assignments and additional fees.
Please write to j-benham@bethel.org.

Course materials (textbook, CD-ROM, and notes) are included in seminar fee of $65.00.
